This is the home page. Right now this site is using the generic iThemes Builder theme and framework, awaiting application of a style (aka “child”) theme which will apply colors and other visual styling elements which can then be customized. Also awaiting content (words and images) to go on this page which will replace these words.
Even though this is a simple Builder theme, I’ve applied (for demonstration and example purposes) a number of tweaks including:
- background color change from white to light blue
- header image created from two of the free images and some text
- navigation menu & hyperlinks coloring to complement the butterfly colors
- adding in a few free photos (from https://www.freeimages.com) and some example text.
- Fixing some spacing (to remove some extra whitespace) between navbar menu items, between header and navbar and between navbar and content module. Also removed page titles since the navigation bar coloring tells you what page you’re on.
- Composed a few example blog entries (aka “posts” aka “articles”) that you’d use on the News page.
- Edited the footer copyright info to show links to the designer and the site privacy page.
Site Info:
This site is a WordPress-powered website, which allows for many different page styles. You can have sidebars (left, right or both), footer widgets (1-5 across the bottom, just above the copyright section), and text and/or images in the header (the top part of the site above the navigation bar). Each page can have a different layout. For now, this site is set for all pages to use the same layout (“full width”), except the contact me page which uses a right sidebar. The full width layout has been edited to include an image for the “header”, full width content element, and 4 images (with links to other pages) in a bottom footer widget set. The right sidebar layout (used on the contact us page) has been edited to include two widgets, one using the “Widget Content” process for formatted content, and one using an image widget.
This area (below the navigation bar and above the four footer widgets) is called the “content area” which is edited by editing the Home page. Most of the other pages are edited the same way, with the exception of the Blog page (in this site it’s called “News”) in which the page itself isn’t edited, but rather “Posts” are created that display on the News page in chronological order. Another exception is the Contact Me page, which uses the Contact Form 7 plugin to generate the fill-able form which is displayed on the page.
